ANXIETY, RELATIONSHIP & TRAUMA THERAPY IN NYC

Understand What’s Getting in Your Way.

You’ve been pushing through for a long time — overthinking every conversation, trying to keep the peace, telling yourself it’s “not that bad.”

But lately, it’s getting heavier. Your mind won’t shut off. Even small conflicts feel overwhelming.

You’re noticing the same patterns. You might be avoiding going home or not saying things out loud, because once you do, you can’t ignore it.

You find yourself shutting down or pulling away. You’re exhausted from carrying this alone.

You’re noticing this isn’t sustainable.

ANXIETY, RELATIONSHIP & TRAUMA THERAPY IN

NEW YORK, NY COULD BE RIGHT FOR YOU IF…

✦ You appear put-together, but internally feel untethered—unclear about your direction, values, or authentic voice.

✦ You are competent, responsible, and dependable, but internally tense. Your nervous system rarely feels settled. Success hasn’t quieted the inner critic; it’s often made it louder.

✦ A shift at work leaves you more anxious than you expected.

✦ A transition leaves you unsure about what you actually want.

✦ You feel stuck in the same relationship cycles you can see clearly but can’t change. You keep coming back to “why does this keep happening?”

✦ A relationship feels uncertain and you find yourself holding back or adjusting (again).

How I Can Help.

ANXIETY THERAPY

Let’s quiet the constant worry so you can feel calmer and more like yourself day to day. Anxiety can feel like your mind never fully shuts off and your body stays on edge.

RELATIONSHIP ISSUES

It’s about how you do relationships — with friends, family and coworkers. We’ll figure out the patterns you fall into, how you protect yourself, and where you get stuck.

TRAUMA & EMDR

Some experiences are so overwhelming they get stuck. We can logically know we are safe but still feel triggered. EMDR helps process these experiences so they no longer have the same intensity and hold on you.

MEET ALISON MARKOWITZ, LCSW

Anxiety, Relationship & Trauma Therapist

in New York, NY

Hi, I’m Alison. I help capable, self-aware adults who seem put-together yet privately second-guessing themselves, feel unsure of their needs, and find themselves stuck in patterns they don’t fully understand.

Together, we make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface — not just what’s showing up, but why it keeps happening. As things become clearer, you feel more grounded, more steady, and more aligned in how you move through your life.

What matters most is how we work together. I’m direct without being harsh. Curious without being passive. Emotionally present and engaged. We pay attention to what happens in the room. Not to analyze you, but to help you experience yourself differently in real time.

My approach to anxiety, relationship, and trauma therapy is active, relational, and emotionally attuned. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help you slow down and notice patterns in real time. I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) to understand the parts of you that learned to over-function, accommodate, or stay measured. And when earlier experiences continue to shape how you respond today, I use EMDR to help your nervous system process what hasn’t fully resolved.

This is therapy for people who are self-aware, motivated, and ready to move beyond insight into actual change. I work with clients located across NYC and New York State.

Frequently Asked Questions

Anxiety, Relationship & Trauma Therapy in New York, NY

  • Finding the right fit matters. It’s helpful to have a sense of what you’re looking for and what you’d like to work on, but beyond that, it often comes down to how it feels to talk with someone.

I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation call where you can ask questions and get a sense of how I work. This can help you decide if it feels like a good fit.

  • In the first few sessions, I focus on getting to know you—your history, what’s been going on, and what you’d like to change. I’ll ask questions, but I’ll also share observations to help you start making sense of what you’ve been experiencing.

From the beginning, the process is collaborative. There’s space for you to ask questions, reflect, and share what’s coming up.

These early sessions help us get a clearer understanding of what’s going on and set the direction for our work together.

  • No. Many people come in knowing something doesn’t feel right, but not exactly why.

Part of the process is figuring that out together—what’s going on, what’s been keeping you stuck, and what you want to change.

  • It’s usually not one big shift, but a series of smaller ones. You might notice you’re reacting differently, feeling more clear about what you want, or less pulled into the same patterns.

Over time, things that used to feel automatic start to feel more intentional—and that’s often a sign real change is happening.

  • This depends on what you’re coming in for and what you want to change. Some people come for a shorter period to work through something specific, while others stay longer to understand deeper patterns.

We’ll talk about this together and adjust as we go. There’s no set timeline—what matters is that the work feels useful and relevant to you.

  • Most clients start with weekly 45 minute sessions. This helps build our working relationship and momentum, while allowing us to understand your patterns more clearly.

Over time, we can adjust the frequency based on your needs and what feels right.

  • My fee for individual 45-minute sessions is $250.

The first session is 60 minutes and gives us more time to get a clearer understanding of what’s bringing you in and how to move forward.

  • I am an out-of-network provider, which means I don’t accept insurance directly.

However, I can provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. Many clients are able to get a portion of their session fee reimbursed—often between 60–80% after their deductible is met.

To better understand your coverage, I recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card and asking:

    • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

    • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much has been met?

    • What percentage is reimbursed for psychotherapy sessions?

    • What is the reimbursement rate for CPT code 90834 (individual therapy)?

    • What is the allowed amount for CPT code 90834 (the amount my insurance uses to calculate reimbursement)?

    • How do I submit superbills?

    • How long does reimbursement typically take?

Why work with an out-of-network therapist?

    • No limits on the number or frequency of sessions

    • More flexible, individualized care

    • Greater privacy (no required diagnosis or shared notes with insurance)

    • Treatment focused on your needs—not insurance guidelines

  • At the end of each month, I’ll provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt). You can submit this to your insurance company, and if you have out-of-network benefits, they will reimburse you directly.

Most insurance companies allow you to submit claims through an online portal, though some may require submission by mail.

If you’re unsure how to submit, your insurance provider can walk you through the process.

  • I am so glad that you’re considering giving me a call!

You can schedule a free 15-minute consultation call by clicking HERE!

During our call we will talk about what is leading you to reach out, I will answer any questions you have about the process, and then talk about logistics of scheduling.

  • I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. If a session is canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed, the full session fee will apply.

This allows me to offer that time to other clients who may be waiting for an appointment. I do my best to accommodate rescheduling, and if we’re able to find another time within the same week, the cancellation fee will not apply.
